Animatic Differences

Once we had started filming we realised that we didn't necessarily need all the different shots that we had included in our animatic. one of the main shots we decided to change was where Genette cycled past the white horse towards the bus stop, but after visiting the location to film we realised that it was't very practical due to the location of the bus stop. This would have meant our actor cycling on a main road while also trying to get a perfect shot.
We also changed the shot where we were going to use a missing poster as the final shot that fills the screen, but decided against it because we didn't want to give too much away and could also be confusing.

Our Distributor

For our distributor we decided to use Film 4 as they are a British digital TV channel owned by Channel Four TV Corporation which screens films. We chose Film 4 because our main target audience is the UK as the events took place here so the story wouldn't have any interest in somewhere like America. Some of the well knows films they have distributed include Trainspotting, This is England and Slumdog Millionaire. Even though most of their films tend to be controversial they all have the fact thy are dramas in common which is the genre of our film opening.

3rd Rough Cut With Missing Footage

This is the third rough cut of our opening. The start of it isn't rendered properly but we have no included the missing footage which still needs to be edited. We have also included more titles and have changed the music.

Audience Feedback

To make sure our film opening appealed to a wider audience we asked two friends to watch our footage and see what they thought was good and what could still be improved.

Ella

  • Some parts still need editing to ensure that the footage flows properly
  • Need more transactions between shots to improve this further as well as more between music
  • The sound fits well with each section, however maybe not switch the music as often

Eddie

  • Camera work is good an not too shaky
  • Titles should be on for longer
  • Music needs to flow better, more transactions so it isn't a jumpy

By getting feedback from a wider audience helps us to know exactly what we need to go back and improve so that are film opening is as good as it can be and is aimed at different people with different tastes.

Oscar Nomination

Image result for la la land
The Oscars this year took place on the 26th February and I have decided to research La La Land as it was such a huge hit at the Oscars, winning a total of 5 awards. The film won:

  • Best Actress
  • Best Director
  • Best Original Music Score
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Production Company
As well as being nominated for a further seven awards.

The film was distributed by Summit Entertainment (owned by Lionsgate), the film was produced by Black Label Media, Gilbert Films, Imposter Pictures, Marc Platt Productions and Summit Entertainment.

Some of the things that contributed to the films success was the films release date as it was released right after the film had won seven awards at the Golden Globes where it attracted lots of press coverage, the film was also advertised across lots of different media sites such as Instagram, Facebook and Youtube which helped it become the most talked about Oscar Nominee. They also banded the film as a 1950's Hollywood musical comeback which was heavily exaggerated in trailers,  instead of focusing on the romantic comedy side of it which caused more hype around the film as it allowed people to connect to the film. However this was criticised by some as they said that the singing and music wasn't like Hollywood's Golden Age musical classics.

    2nd Rough Cut

This is our second rough cut of our footage so far. We are still missing some footage where the screen goes black where there will be clips of the last time Genette was seen. By doing this rough cut it enables us to see what else we may need to include and helps us to make sure it is edited exactly how we like it with the right transactions. We have now included titles and we are still working out where they would fir best, but so far I think they are looking okay.

Rough Cut Of Our Footage So Far

This is all the footage that we have gathered so far. There are still some blank spaces where we are yet to film some footage of the kidnapper but everything we have so far is edited, however we still need some more clips cutting so that it flows better. We are also still trying out different music to find something that fits with our opening.

    Audience Feedback

During our lesson we asked a couple of people  in our class to watch our footage so far. They said that the camera work was really good as none of it is shaky and that the sound throughout was good because it matched each scene and was in time to what was happening. However they said that some of the lighting in one of the scenes was slightly off compared to the rest of the footage so we may have to re film this scene.

After getting feedback we now know that we need to pay more attention to lighting during filming to ensure that we don't have to go back and re film any parts last minute and we also now know that we need hurry up with filming as some of the scenes haven't been filmed yet.
